Ravinder Bhogal’s third cookbook, Comfort & Joy, is a celebration of the variety and abundance of vegetables. Packed full of bold and innovative recipes that showcase the culinary virtues of vegan and vegetarian cooking, it is a love song to generations of her ancestors for whom plant-based meals were the norm. The book contains over 100 inviting and approachable recipes. There are fragrant and fortifying curries and stews including a mango and golden coin curry; hefty salads packed with fistfuls of good things such as heritage tomato salad with lime leaf dressing, ginger and chilli; sides that will steal the show; and pickles and condiments to enliven and enhance every plate. This is a cookbook to read, but also one that deserves to have its pages stained and spattered.
Comfort & Joy also contains intimate and personal essays written with openness and grace. In conversation for this event, Ravinder and Meera will discuss the indulgent and pleasurable recipes that ensure the vegetarian option will never again be relegated to second choice alongside discussions of the topics raised in the essays of immigration, recipe inheritance, ancestral links with land & food, self-denial & love & dessert. Tune in for this sumptuous event!
