Brian Bilston returns a brand-new way to celebrate and mark every single day of the year. Here are the poems that will take the blues out of Monday, flatten the Wednesday hump and amplify that Friday feeling from January through to December.
Days Like These contains a poem for every day of the year, each one inspired by an event associated with that day, and introduced with a paragraph from Brian – from the invention of television to World Bee Day; from Ada Lovelace Day to the founding of the NHS; from the death of Agatha Christie to the beheading of Charles I.
Variously funny, surprising, ingenious, serious, touching and daft, the poems’ subjects also include: quarks, Morse code, Wittgenstein, Blue Peter, bananas, unicorns, Barbie, the unification of Italy, the Rubik’s Cube, water, Scrabble, Waiting for Godot, the moon, Jane Austen, Esperanto, beer, Matt Hancock, Lego, kindness, Countdown, and Elvis. Each introduction is followed by a poem written in response. A wholly delightful, original way to mark each day of the year.
In conversation with Henry Normal, Brian will do a select reading from his newest book and discuss the inspiration behind the poems and why now felt like the best time to dedicate a collection to every day in the year. Don’t miss what promises to be a hilarious feel-good event for the end of the year!
